What Is Sanskrit ? Importance Of Sanskrit
Sanskrit is an official language of India and it finds its place in Rupee notes and official communications. It is also a state language in a few states, though it is not spoken as widely as other official languages.
But all the other Indian languages are heavily dependent on Sanskrit for vocabulary, phrases and expressions. Sanskrit is really the mother of all Indian (called as Ind-European) languages.
Influence of Sanskrit could be seen in many European languages too such as Lithuanian, Russian and Anglo Saxon languages.
Importance Of Sanskrit Language In Today's World
Presently there is lot of interest in Sanskrit world-wide. Reasons are many – It is ancient and it has a large volume of literature in almost all subjects. And other reason – it is a well formed language i.e.
its grammar makes the language precise and unambiguous and well suited as a machine language. Panini’s book known as “Ashtaadyaayi” is the oldest recorded grammar for any language written in the form of mathematical sutras (i.e. formulas).
Panini himself states that he is only compiling the sutras that were already well known and practised for a long time before him and one could imagine the ancientness of Sanskrit.
Some people mistakenly consider Sanskrit as difficult. Sanskrit is simple to learn and the language has precise rules and order of placement words in a sentence does not alter the meaning, unlike English or other popular languages. This is the reason, that it is best suited as a machine (computer) language.
Sanskrit sounds musical and its chanting is always pleasing to hear. Pronunciation is given highest importance and hence wherever it is spoken, it sounds the same and there are no variations or dialects.
Importance Of Sanskrit In Foreign Countries
It is heartening that Sanskrit is slowly getting its prominence, albeit slowly. There are more universities now with special chairs for Sanskrit. In some European countries, there is even a craze to learn the language.
Sanskrit as a spoken language is a movement, that is gaining momentum and there is a large number of people who could converse in the language.
There has been a cartoon film and a full length film in Sanskrit in the recent past. There is a popular belief that Future of the world is Bharat and Future of Bharat is Sanskrit and I am a strong believer in this.
